Fishing Guides working with  San Carlos Sport Fishing    are local International Tournament winners... No doubt the best  Tarpon/Snook/Rainbow bass  fishing guides in the entire Rio San Juan area. They also have a good Knowledge of Bird Watching, Wilds life... a Must as Discovery is part of my Trips.

We do not fish the conventional 8 hours, we may fish much longer... It may be  from 5 am till 6/7 pm , 10hours, 11 hours..." Depend on Guest " , You decide. This is a long day ... No problem my guides enjoy doing it  because first they love fishing, as simple as that . At SCS we pay them per working day they get local  highest wages but they really deserve this money..DSCF1661.JPG (750541 bytes)

A  S.C.S. fishing guide have to perfectly know the river and fish behavior  in the area   but also whatever his experience and knowledge about fish  he has to be willing to listen  and learn from Guests.. Anglers visiting us  knows a lot  about New tackles  in many case  more  than us...We know the area...It is an Exange.

All our fishing guide   are local born  ( We fish "their river" I like this  exchange  ,  I am very happy  to bring  Job even if  only for some days per month )

Some guides are at their tarpon #1000 or more.. but when reel sound they still have the same enthusiastic reaction as if it was their first tarpon... I like that...  And what about their smile when they release a Tarpon...

Most of them are collaborating  with us  since around 4 years... They are independent  paid on a daily basic , free to join a trip or not...  but so far when I ask them if they want to go fishing with a group.. They never said no....

We really  have fun all together good time , some  exceptional moments in each of our Expeditions..

We  always have younger around wishing to join  the Team some really  very young..  10 years old  11.. ( A must to join is to keep  going  to school fishing only can be  in free time ) These younger are coming to help in our boat,  they learn and perpetuate the tradition , becoming a tarpon  fishing Guide  is also a way for them to have a Future, to make some money  in an area witch is still  very poor....

English of Guides  is  strictly basic but  you will  communicate.. ...I warranty you will  have fun and  good time  with them

DSCF1651.JPG (727879 bytes)We always fish 1  fishing guide, 1 crew  per boat,( Fishing guide Choose his mate , they  work as a Team know well each other )  this is for safety reason.   We are in Jungle river fighting  really big tarpon from 90lb till 250lb+...and  also for  efficiency and your comfort , one  is driving the boat the other guide is taking care of  you and fishing, our boats are big enough to fish in comfort two guides two guests eventually three guests if you all know each other well before the trip, we never ad an unknown additional angler on your trip....

All  fishing guides  hired for  our Expeditions have to be   Licensed Boat Captain  Allowed to navigate on San Juan River they  have  formal instruction from  me concerning safety... meaning all security equipment aboard  FUNDAMENTAL  RULE IS  NO RISK ABSOLUTELY NO RISK, for Example  if lake is tuff or "may become tuff" this happen on a trip over 20 we will  not go for Rainbow bass in  Solentiname ( 20 miles away of Open water) we will  fish  for tarpon on always quiet San Juan River. .or Machacas on Rio Frio.

I like to have a drink with my guests at night,  guides also but   FISHING GUIDES working with san carlos sport fishing   will not  drink alcohol when at work. ....

Augusto Cesar Jarquin Mena   Augusto is the chief guide, The Boss,  El Tio...  in charge of all Fishing part inAugusto.jpg (180408 bytes) my Operation. All of a character known in all San Juan River, he is born in Los Chiles border town between Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Since he is a little boy he has been fishing the entire area. We fish together since 10 years, no one know the river and Tarpon and snook like him. No doubt you will have a lot of fun with him also he will be pending on what you may wish, if you like he will take you for a drink in town, go with you to meet local people, His personal record on Tarpon is 253lb... He stop to count the DSC02777.JPG (348125 bytes) tarpon he has caught but be certain than when the reel will sound it will be like if it was the first tarpon of his life.  He is all of a great professional. As a personal note I like to ad than when my young sons are around they go with him...For safety, and also he cares... It is with him than both of them caught their first Tarpon...They were 8 years old ..both of them "made" several time the Children IGFA Tarpon world with him.  Augusto is a great professional, sincerely the best fishing guide I met in my life.

CAMARA Phil 184.jpg (353776 bytes)Jairo El Chele  DSC_0255.JPG (2390257 bytes) Born in San Carlos, he started to fish as a mate  with Augusto some 5 Years ago... and he became a guide. As Augusto he works hard, will be ready if you wish to go fishing at 4.30am.  He use all of our basic technics but always try to create.. So far he caught more than a thousand Tarpon, bigest 210LB ... With him you also will go to Solentiname  he has his secret spots for Rainbow Bass. He is going to be famous as he is the guide in the TV SHOW THE FISHING AMBASSADOR to be broadcast on DISCOVERY CHANEL.

Eliesser Jarquin Mena   on Eliesse.jpg (34546 bytes)  photo  with the bill  of a 1800lb Saw fish caught  by a relative of Mr.  Carlos Coronel  in front of his hacienda of San Pancho on the bank of San Juan River some 20 years ago...

Eliesser have been  working for several years with my company as a fishing guide... he is Augusto's brother , very smart and with a lot of capacity of improvisation of creativity , ( this is very important for a real fishing guide.. he will move  a lot always looking for new spots...always making New improvement on the lures.. he paint them , invent and this work incredibly well .. Rapala is welcome to ask his advise on what  new color he suggest for tarpon...) , In 2003  edition of the Annual San carlos tarpon fishing tournament  Fishing with two guests from USA he won 4 trophy on 5 available,  he also  caught last year  a 236lb tarpon (exceptionally weighed.. AN ACCIDENT )  , this is apparently  the #2 biggest tarpon ever weighed in Central America ( Testimony Mr Bill Cowin from Woodinville , WA ) #1 is the 253lb of Augusto. Eliesser is also very known in the entire area , some call him " Travolta " I still wonder why... .

Luis Urbina  has been the first fishing guides working with me , he is the one who was there  on the real beginning  when  I built the first Julia Brava in 1999 , also when  I  was  investigating   Rio Frio luis4.jpg (11364 bytes),  Cano Negro, Rio San Juan  with my sons and friends   before  we started to organize  any fishing expeditions . He went  away for several years fishing at sea in Golfito and also San Juan del Norte... He is now back with us..  He really knows a lot concerning Tarpon and snook in the area.. I remember that special  day of my 50 year old birthday 1999 when Luis said "to day we fish  Playuelas.". at   Second cast  I had a 100lb Tarpon on

Other fishing guides working with  San Carlos sport Fishing  are: Chico, Pinky, Juan, Carlos, Walter, Lolo ,Alexandro, Abraham , Pin, Armando.....A special mention for  Juan   so  impressive in his way   to cast and work a lure ..  on his free days  he catch big tarpon on his spinning rods 30lb... This is heavy for us...detail is than he does not fish  from a boat, he cast from the pier in Los Chiles...using Juan patented Lures...Los Plumeros...
