Fishing Solentiname...

Always a great pleasure to go fishing for Rainbowbass around the islands of  beautiful Solentiname  Archipelago Located in Nicaragua Lake 12 miles away from San Carlos.

It can be for a morning fishing from our lodge ( 15 mn with our fast boat to reach the first island...) or we may decide  to sleep there at Hospedage of Ernesto Cardenal , Hotel Mancaron , Hotel Paraiso or Celantiname...

In Solentiname we  catch Rainbow bass, every day of the year there is no Specific season... Same for  Mojara, Machaca, and some Snook

We use light tackles, spinning, Bait Casting or Fly fishing. We cast to shore in swallow water and slowly retrieve to boat... We also  fish with  Popper.. it has to be very early morning  but really this is worst to get up,  the emotion is incredible... ( I personaly really more and more enjoy Popper Fishing...)

Usual catch for Rainbow bass are  between 4 to 8lb ... We had several Lagunero around 10 lb,  ONE 12LB...( the world record was around 10lb then...,  aparently this world record  has been beaten  and now is around 15lb ) .

We broke line ( 15lb and 20lb ) on very very big of these fish...I cannot give any estimate of weight of these  fish as we did not see them.. THEY WERE NOT IN THE ROCKS..... no doubt these where very big Lagunero...

We fish on light Tackles:  Spinning, Bait casting   or fly fishing. Another very eficient technic we use on request of Guests is trolling ... This is the way to get bigger fish... ( Not my favorite way but ok if you target I.G.F.A. World Record...)

We have a lot of new spots to try  in the imensity of Nicaragua Lake... I have been told of places in Wild life reserve of Los Guatousso... These places are at Maximum one Hour in our fast boats from my new Guest House precisely located in Los Guatousso... ( Where San Juan River Start )

In Nicaragua Lake, apart from Solentiname  It is also possible to fish Trolling  most efective way is to fish Deep.. Locating Rocks with a  Fish finder..) obviously this is specifically true when sun is high  on hot Summer day..( From January  till  May/June )

Spinning and Bait Casting:

These are the lures we like to use for Rainbow bass fishing.. ( Best are circled ) Wapote and Mojara  will also take them. and eventually Machacas and Snook if around....

Fly fishing These are the flies recomanded by my  friend Mr Peter Gorinsky well known fly fishing expert since 25  years in Central America.

Fly fishing equipment to use  #4 till #8 Sinking line and Tipet

Other places where to fish for Rainbow bass:

A few Rainbow bass can eventually be caught in Rio frio and Cano Negro.. Also down San Juan River in the ponds close from Grey Town San Juan del Norte

In the past I  also fished in Arenal Lake in Costa Rica  but honestly  nowadays  fishing for Rainbow bass in these place  (  Cano Negro, Rio Frio or Lake Arenal )   is not what it used to be  ( Sorry  pictures on the wall of  , blue Marlin bar in San Jose hotel del Rey  BELONGS TO HISTORY....)

Nowadays it is very very  difficult to catch  a Rainbow bass in Lake Arenal..

Fortunately for the  " Lagunero aficionados" Rainbow Bass are really still  abundant in Solentiname

   WHAT TO EXPECT??

Fishing is Close to shore of Virgin Islands in quiet fresh water Jungle Scenery is Around, Bird Watching... Some Crocs..etc ...

Profesional guides, Pro equipments Rods and Lures....

In a typical morning fishing ( 6am till 12md )   we may catch between 5 to 10 Rainbow with size between 4 to 8lb Then a Hundred of other fish Bass, Mojara, Machaca

I do not like to go down from 12lb for this fishing.. As Rainbow have tendancy to go to the rocks..
